So, you're the proud owner of a Roland Sound Canvas. Congratulations! It's a fine MIDI instrument capable of some very impressive sounds. The Sierra Soundtracks on this page will put your SC to the test by utilizing its many features and through extensive use of the hundreds of tones hidden within those chips. Note that all of these GS files require the MT-32 variation tone set. If your Sound Canvas model does not contain these sounds, the files on this page will not play back properly.

YAMAHA XG USERS PLEASE NOTE:
Although some Yamaha XG devices include both the MT-32 and CM-32P variation tone sets, Roland and Yamaha sound characteristics differ greatly. These files will not play properly under Yamaha XG.
ROLAND SC-D70/SC-88/SC-88 PRO/SC-8820/SC-8850 USERS:

Be sure to set your module to SC-55 Mode in order to properly play these MIDI files. The sound characteristics and balance between Sound Canvas patch maps may differ slightly and affect the output of some GS song files.

NOTE:  If your Sound Canvas interprets "CC 032 = 1" as the SC-55 bank number, some of these GS files will automatically set your module to the proper mode.
Files which do this are indicated by the following logo:

GS Version
Adventures Of Willy Beamish
"Spider" by Don Latarski and Christopher Stevens. You can't beat the original MT-32 version of this song, but I'm still pleased with the results when translated for the Sound Canvas.

GS Version
Adventures Of Willy Beamish
"Willy's Backyard" by Don Latarski and Christopher Stevens. A rough translation of the original MT-32 score, but it'll pass.

GS Version
Betrayal At Krondor
"Introduction" by Jan Paul Moorhead. More great music from Dynamix!

GS Version
Colonel's Bequest
"Victrola Theme #221" by Ken Allen. Nice!

GS Version
Colonel's Bequest
"Ravel's Bolero - Victrola Theme #223" by Ken Allen. The trombone is somewhat unexpected -- gives it a little flare.

GS Version
Code-Name: Iceman
"Iceman!" by Mark Seibert. I've always liked this theme, though I don't believe the game itself was a huge success. But I loved it!

GS Version
Code-Name: Iceman
"Underwater Sabatage" by Mark Seibert. Okay, I know the scuba gear didn't translate too swiftly for GS, but it's the thought that counts...

GS Version
Code-Name: Iceman
"The Compound" by Mark Seibert. This was another one that was pretty difficult to translate given the limitations of SC-55 GS. It would do much better converted for more advanced Sound Canvas synths...

GS Version
Conquests Of Camelot
"Introduction" by Mark Seibert. A tune from the glory days of Sierra, when each new game release was highly anticipated.

GS Version
Conquests Of The Longbow
"Lobb " by Aubrey Hodges. No Celtic Harps in GM or SC-55 GS, but this 12-string gives it a little better feel than a standard guitar track.
  SC-55 patch map enabled.

GS Version
Conquests Of The Longbow
"Campfire Song " by Aubrey Hodges. Though the conversion doesn't capture all the night-time sound effects, it's a wonderfully peaceful piece.

GS Version
David Wolf Secret Agent
"Closing Credits" by Alan McKean. I took quite a few liberties while converting this rather obscure theme from one of Dynamix's early adventures.

GS Version
Eco Quest - The Search For Cetus
"The Toxic Waste Dump" by Chris Brayman. The music for this game was grossly overlooked on this site for some time, but not any more! Some great stuff!

GS Version
Eco Quest - The Search For Cetus
"Professor Erroneous" by Chris Brayman. Another well-suited song for transfer to GS.

GS Version
Eco Quest - The Search For Cetus
"The Final Battle" by Chris Brayman. The electric guitars were crying for GS and XG conversions on this one. I think they were right...

GS Version
Fire Hawk - Thexder The Second Contact
"Opening Theme" by Rob Atesalp. This one was a lot of fun to convert, as are many of Rob Atesalp's scores. You gotta love that "Leslie" organ!

GS Version
Fire Hawk - Thexder The Second Contact
"Mission 4" by Rob Atesalp. This one would have ended up on the General MIDI pages except that it requires the use of 'feedback guitar,' which isn't part of the GM instrument mapping.

GS Version
Heart Of China
"The Orient Express - Part Three" by Christopher Stevens and Don Latarski. Sorry, no train whistle, but still a wonderful theme nonetheless!

GS Version
Heart Of China
"Finale" by Christopher Stevens and Don Latarski. Updated! A personal favorite! Converted for Roland GS by Ari Stone.

GS Version
Jones In The Fast Lane
"Low-Cost Apartments " by Ken Allen. I chose GS instead of GM for this conversion so I could use the SC's Electric Guitar 2 patch, which is basically the same as the MT-32's. This song has a lot of potential, and someday, I'd like to explore it.

GS Version
King's Quest
Quest For The Crown

"The Witch" by Ken Allen. Yes, even the bubbles are included!

GS Version
King's Quest 4
The Perils Of Rosella

"Overture" by William Goldstein. Another one of those "very close to the original MT-32" soundtrack files! This one might actually be right on the money!

GS Version
King's Quest 4
The Perils Of Rosella

"Finale" by William Goldstein. I've found most themes from King's Quest 4 convert very well to GS using the SC's MT-32 variation tones. This one is no exception.

GS Version
King's Quest 4b
The Perils Of Rosella

"Finale" by William Goldstein. Converted to GS by Ari Stone. This is an enhanced GS version of the original MT-32 version. Instead of just using the SC's synthetic sounding MT-32 variation, this version takes advantage of the SC's more realistic sounds such as the superior strings, guitars, trumpets and orchestral drumset, thereby making it sound more symphonic. Hope you like it!

King's Quest 5
Absence Makes The Heart Go Yonder!

"The Town" by Mark Seibert & Ken Allen. I was pleased with how much of this song I was able to convert for GS. In addition to the accordion lead, most of the sound effects are present as well.

GS Version
King's Quest 5
Absence Makes The Heart Go Yonder!

"Oasis" by Mark Seibert & Ken Allen. This version has been slightly remixed by replacing the orchestral strings with a choir. Just an experiment that I thought sounded...well...kind of nice.

GS Version
King's Quest 6
Heir Today, Gone Tomorrow

"Girl In The Tower" by Chris Brayman and Mark Seibert. This is my favorite of the MIDI versions of this song. The GS piano is much closer to the real thing!

GS Version
King's Quest 6
Heir Today, Gone Tomorrow

"Closing Scenes" by Chris Brayman and Mark Seibert. Converted to GS by Ari Stone, the upgrade to orchestral percussion greatly enhances the mood.
  SC-55 patch map enabled.

GS Version
Leisure Suit Larry
In The Land Of The Lounge Lizards

"The Disco" by Chris Brayman. Equals the MT-32 version in every respect!

GS Version
Leisure Suit Larry
In The Land Of The Lounge Lizards

"Eve" by Chris Brayman. The l-o-n-g version. Lots of nice, smooth jazz from Mr. Brayman.

GS Version
Leisure Suit Larry 3
Passionate Patti In Pursuit Of The Pulsating Pectorals

"Complete Soundtrack" by Mike Dana. LSL3's fabulous score in its entirity...including all of the sound effects. If you've never heard the MT-32 version of this soundtrack, this version is as close as it gets.

GS Version
Leisure Suit Larry 3
Passionate Patti In Pursuit Of The Pulsating Pectorals

"Cheri Tart" by Mike Dana. There's a few great songs among all the soundtracks in Sierra games, but this one has always been one of my top favorites.

GS Version
Leisure Suit Larry 3
Passionate Patti In Pursuit Of The Pulsating Pectorals

"The Comedy Hut" by Mike Dana. Another preview theme from the Complete GS soundtrack for LSL3. Paul Paul knocks 'em dead with his ethnic humor.

GS Version
Police Quest 2: The Vegeance
"Main Title Theme" by Mark Seibert. Mark's first MIDI soundtrack for Sierra, arranged using the MT-32 sounds of the Sound Canvas.

GS Version
Police Quest 3: The Kindred
"Closing Themes" by Jan Hammer. This song uses an unusual Bender setting, so you may have to reset your Sound Canvas after playback.

GS Version
Quest Studios
"A Hero's Quest - Part One" by Tom Lewandowski. A personal interpretation and arrangement based on the first four Quest For Glory games. References the savanah (QFG3), W.I.T. (QFG2), various battles (QFG4), the Fairy Ring (QFG1), and the Hero's march.

GS Version
Quest Studios
"Roger Wilco - Ace Janitor (& Galactic Hero)"
By Tom Lewandowski. This arrangement is based on the very first AGI Space Quest adventure, before MIDI was a part of games. It was originally written for the AdLib Music Synthesizer Card, then reworked for the MT-32. Now it's made its way to GS.

GS Version
Quest For Glory 1
So You Want To Be A Hero...

"Closing Themes" by Mark Seibert. This soundtrack is only heard in the EGA version of "Hero's Quest." Includes sound effects and a brief introduction into Quest For Glory 2. Neat stuff!

GS Version
Quest For Glory 2
Trial By Fire

"The Soundtrack" by Chris Brayman and Mark Seibert. More from a great Sierra series! This GS version is missing a couple of themes that wouldn't translate properly from the MT-32, but it's still a fantastic score. A very close match to the original MT-32 version.

GS Version
Quest For Glory 2
Trial By Fire

"Julanar" by Chris Brayman and Mark Seibert. And excerpt from the complete Quest For Glory 2 GS soundtrack. A beautiful song which deserves to stand on its own.

GS Version
Quest For Glory 4
Shadows Of Darkness

"Introduction" by Aubrey Hodges. This file should be compatible with General MIDI devices as well, but will perform best on a Roland Sound Canvas compatibles.

GS Version
Silpheed
"The Soundtrack" by Game Arts. Since most of the instruments used are from the default MT-32 patch set, this soundtrack is a natural for Roland GS playback. Thanks to Eric Wing, Mark Farinas, and John R. Johns II for making this one a possibility!

GS Version
Silpheed
"Introduction & Opening Theme" by Game Arts. The included text file states "Roland Sound Canvas or Yamaha XG required", but forget it with XG; it doesn't work. Roland GS users will hear a pretty close match to the original MT-32 version.

GS Version
Silpheed
"Fighting In Normal Space" by Game Arts. More from one of Sierra's first MIDI supported games. Thanks to Eric Wing for heping name these selections.

GS Version
Silpheed
"Attacking The Enemy Base" by Game Arts. I think the music from this game has been about the easiest to convert for GS than any other game!

GS Version
Silpheed
"Closing Theme" by Game Arts. My favorite of the Silpheed tracks. I believe this is probably the first Sierra soundtrack I ever recorded.

GS Version
Silpheed
"Gloire - The Big Boss" by Game Arts. He's lean, he's mean, he's a killin' machine.

GS Version
Space Quest 1 - The Sarien Encounter
"Introduction" by Ken Allen. Based on Scott Murphy's popular theme. A perfect candidate for conversion to GS.

GS Version
Space Quest 1 - The Sarien Encounter
"Ulence Flats " by Ken Allen. That's some wild harmonica playing. One might think that this theme gives Ulence Flats a bad name -- sleezy, at best. SC-55 patch map enabled.

GS Version
Space Quest 1 - The Sarien Encounter
"Closing Themes" by Ken Allen. No, there aren't perfect GS sound matches for every instrument heard in the MT-32 version, but it's not bad.

GS Version
Space Quest 3 - The Pirates Of Pestulon
"Complete Soundtrack" by Bob Siebenberg. Another of Sierra's first MIDI soundtracks, converted from the original MT-32 Sound Module for Roland GS playback. Though not all of the neat sound effects were able to migrate to the Sound Canvas, many made the transition quite well. Various embedded reverb changes help keep the original flavor alive.

GS Version
Space Quest 3 - The Pirates Of Pestulon
"Main Title Theme" by Bob Siebenberg. Based upon a theme by Mark Crowe. Sounds so much like the original MT-32 sequence that it's scarry!

GS Version
Space Quest 3 - The Pirates Of Pestulon
"Opening Sequence" by Bob Siebenberg. Not as nice of a conversion as I could have hoped, but even the Sound Canvas has its limitations when trying to imitate the Roland MT-32.

GS Version
Space Quest 3 - The Pirates Of Pestulon
"Robot Garbage Freighter" by Bob Siebenberg. Now this is more like it -- almost an identical match to its MT-32 sibling.

GS Version
Space Quest 3 - The Pirates Of Pestulon
"The Black Hole" by Bob Siebenberg. I had a great time converting this. I was even able to keep the 'space ship' fly-by's!

GS Version
Space Quest 4 - Roger Wilco & The Time Rippers
"Introduction" by Ken Allen. A somewhat more 'symphonic' version of the original GM version. Just check out those orchestral drums!
